In the Wood Shop cutting equipment including a CNC router allows part of a project to be designed in CAD software and then cut automatically using the router. In this lab are 3D printers and 3D scanning equipment. From fused filament fabrication (FFF) to liquid resin stereolithography (SLA) 3D printers that can create objects in a variety of materials such as ABS, PLA and flexible plastic. This equipment allows designers to quickly make their product parts and test them.
The Electronics lab comes fully equipped with function generators to provide a controlled electric input to a circuit. There are also oscilloscopes that allow members to make measurements of the signal across the circuit. They would also have access to many other tools required in the creation of their printed circuit boards (PCBs).
This lab contains laser cutting equipment. The laser system is a versatile tool that can cut or etch a variety of materials, from plastics and metals to more natural products such as wood and leather. This equipment allows members to quickly create their project and test it in a short period of time. There is also a spray booth available to apply a finishing touch to a project.
The Metal Shop has all the tools necessary to form, shape, cut, weld and machine pieces of metal. These tools can make satellite parts, car parts, robots, geodesic domes and organic metal sculptures. SoiLAB also provides precision fixturing tables and measurement tools.
The Textiles lab has sewing machines with straight stitch and walking foot used for heavy-duty upholstery e.g. sewing foam and leather. Also available is a serger for trimming seams and enclosing the edge of the fabric. The heat press is used for printing designs on to fabrics and other machinery is available for printing on to garments.
